Envision Engineering Celebrates 30 Years of Innovation and Excellence

Reflecting on a Journey of Success and Growth

This year marks a significant milestone for Envision Engineering as we proudly celebrate our 30th anniversary. Three decades of unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and a passion for electrical engineering have propelled us to where we stand today—a leading force in the western U.S. A/E/C industry. As we look back on our journey, it's not just about the years but the remarkable people, projects, and milestones that define our legacy. We are grateful to our clients and business associates who believed in our vision and helped shape and refine our success.

1994 - Tracy Aviary Gift Shop Remodel: A Humble Beginning

Our journey began with the Tracy Aviary Gift Shop Remodel, the first project our founder, Jeff Owen, undertook when he formed Envision. This transformative project, given to him by the late Bob Eaton, a dear friend and architect, set the tone for our commitment to quality and innovation.

1996 - RC Willey Warehouse: Laying the Foundation for Success

Electrical design for the RC Willey Warehouse near the Salt Lake City International Airport (SLCIA) was a success and soon many other RC Willey retail outlet locations followed.

1998 - Dave Whitton Joins Envision as Principal and 26+ Years of Service to SLCIA Begins: New Depth

With Dave joining the firm and landing the on-call electrical engineering services contract at SLCIA, 1998 marked the need for larger spaces and the inclusion of more talented individuals to our growing team.

2000 - Gateway Block D and SkyWest Airlines Corporate Office: Olympic Spirit and Corporate Success

The year 2000 brought us the Gateway Block D, a retail space project in preparation for the 2002 Olympics, and the SkyWest Airlines Corporate Office Building in St. George, projects that began to forge our presence and relationships in the architectural community.

2003 - Zions Bank Corporate Building: Remodeling Excellence

Envision's involvement in the comprehensive remodel of the Zions Bank Corporate Building demonstrated our versatility in handling all levels of remodel—core and shell, and tenant improvements.

2004 – New Salt Lake City International Airport: Soaring to New Heights

Envision was one of the few local electrical engineering firms selected for this $5.1 billion project—one of the largest construction endeavors in Utah history. Our roles included construction administration for the installation of all electrical systems to power the massive airport terminal building and its vital operations. We also engineered power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm systems, for a wide range of support facilities, buildings, and infrastructure across the airport site—both landside and airside. As subsequent airport expansion phases continue, our services are ongoing today.

2005 - Miller Motorsports Park and City Creek Parking Structure: A Dynamic Portfolio

Collaboration with Cache Valley Electric in 2005 for the Miller Motorsports Park and the City Creek Parking Structure showcased our capability in diverse projects, underlining our commitment to meeting unique engineering challenges.

2008 - U of U Skaggs Pharmacy Research Building and USU UStar Bio-innovation Center: Venturing into Lab and Technology Spaces

The University of Utah Skaggs Building and Utah State University UStar Center projects marked our entry into the lab and technology space and solidified our reputation as industry leaders in specialized electrical design to power research and innovation.

2012 - University of Utah Electrical Distribution Infrastructure Upgrade: Powering Higher Education

Envision played a major role in the $86 million campus-wide University of Utah Electrical Distribution Infrastructure Upgrade project. Going forward, our electrical engineers and designers have become the go-to team for award-winning work to power higher education facilities throughout Utah and surrounding regions—from state-of-the science, research, and technology centers to stadiums, athletic training facilities, educational buildings, and collaborative student living and learning spaces.

2014 - Davis School District Odyssey Elementary: A Transformative Project and Utah's First Zero-Energy K12 School

The Odyssey Elementary project in 2014 marked a turning point, catapulting us into the K12 and photovoltaic markets. Awarded as a zero-energy project, it significantly impacted the firm, leading to more collaborations with the Davis School District and positioned Envision as a thought-leader in sustainable, solar energy design.

2014 - Overstock.com: Mega Corporate HQ and Data Center

Meeting the challenge to efficiently power massive corporate campuses and data center environments was achieved for Overstock.com at their new 332,000 SF campus, including the main HQ office building, a multi-level parking structure, and 5,000 SF tier level 2 Data Center.

2015 - Farmington High School: Raising the Bar in Education

Farmington High School established a new, extremely high benchmark for K-12 school design. For the massive 405,000 SF, $78.5 million project, Envision worked to achieve a high level of flexibility, technological infrastructure, security and safety systems, and energy efficiency--achieving net-zero status with innovations including placing photovoltaic panels—which power most of the school’s energy needs—on the large canopies over the district’s school bus parking facility adjacent to the high school. This project led to Envision's K-12 energy efficient expertise being utilized for other large high schools including, Skyline, Cyprus, Tooele, and Hillcrest high schools.

2017 - Utah State Correctional Facility: Light and Power for Security

Envision was part of a collaborative team that provided electrical engineering for the $1.05 billion new Utah State Correctional Facility, including 37 buildings with a total of 1.35 million square feet of operational space located on approximately 190 acres in northwest Salt Lake City.

2017 - Laie, Hawaii Temple: A Landmark Achievement

Our collaboration on the design team for Laie Temple in 2017 was monumental, opening doors to key clients and reinforcing our standing in the industry. This project represented our first project in Hawaii and showcased our capabilities on a national scale.

2018 - BYU Hawaii Cafeteria Building: Island Expansion

We continued our ventures into Hawaii in 2018 with the BYU Hawaii Cafeteria Building. Today, we proudly continue to contribute to comprehensive work across BYU Hawaii's campus infrastructure.
