The City Creek Center, a large scale mixed-use development of high rise and galleria style retail, apartment, and high-rise condominiums, towers above a massive underground parking facility in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. At over two-million square feet, this vast facility will provide approximately 5,000 parking stalls to the visitors and residents of City Creek, serving the locale while hiding inconspicuously below an estimated 800,000 square feet of retail space. Sustainable principles are being applied in the design, construction and plans for operation of City Creek Center. For example, more than 50% of demolition debris is being recycled. City Creek Center is a LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED ND) pilot project. It is one of 60 pilot projects in the country selected to participate in a focus group that is helping the U.S. Green Building Council finalize its new LEED ND certification process.
