Caroline Tanner Irish Humanities Building

University of Utah | Salt Lake City, Utah

The $16.5 million, 55,000 SF Carolyn Tanner Irish Humanities Building at the University of Utah is one of the first buildings designed utilizing the State of Utah’s new high efficiency building standards. The project is LEED® Gold and received an AIA Utah Honor Award.

As the electrical engineer for the project, Envision used high-efficiency lighting design methods, as well as HVAC integration for occupancy detection controls. The upgrade of the existing 12,470-volt medium voltage distribution system was a significant component of the electrical design. In addition to comprehensive electrical and power systems, Envision provided design for lighting and audio/visual design.

As the center for the Department of History, International Studies, and Department of Philosophy at the university, the award-winning space includes lecture halls, seminar rooms, conference and group study spaces, administrative suites, café, contemplative areas, an outdoor patio and labyrinth.
