Provo City Center Temple Historical Renovation

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints | Provo, UT

Envision provided complete electrical engineering, lighting design, and construction administration for the historical renovation of the Provo City Center Temple and surrounding site. The temple site consists of approximately 75,000 SF of building space including three levels, sub-basement, remote pavilion, and above and below grade parking areas.

The goal for the project was to preserve the remaining shell of the burnt historic Provo Tabernacle and to transform the building into an operational temple for worship while retaining its historical integrity. Extensive design measures were taken to accomplish this goal from all architectural and engineering consultants. As a small example, in relation to lighting design, the slate roof made it impractical to mount lighting fixtures on the roof; so, careful coordination with landscaping and site lighting poles was done to light the tower and statue of angel Moroni without obtrusive fixtures detracting from the historical precedence of the temple.

Due to the owner purchase/closure of 100 South adjacent to the site, the design also included extensive power and communication utility coordination work to re-route a main downtown power feeder and multiple communication fiber and copper backbones around multiple city blocks. The project included design and coordination with the city, local utilities, adjacent owners, and multiple design consultants to successfully re-route the utilities.
